Dark Wallpaper

Deep charcoal, ebony, chocolate brown, darkest green and blues and dramatic near-black grounds - the richest, most enveloping end of the Becca Who wallpaper collection.

Not necessarily - this is one of the most repeated pieces of design advice which is largely a myth. A dark, patterned wallpaper can soften the contrast between walls and shadow, making a small room feel more cohesive and intentional rather than cramped.

All-over pattern can be so dramatic and create a jewel-box feel which is especially atmospheric in smaller spaces, but you'll want to carefully consider lighting to compliment, with layered lamp light working very well.

You might prefer to choose one dark feature wall complimented by softer hues of painted walls In your compact or low-light room.

Wood tones in furniture, brass or gold fixtures, and reflective surfaces like a mirror or glass table keep a dark room feeling considered rather than heavy.

Dark wallpaper works particularly well in spaces that we want to enjoy mainly in the evening, such as bedrooms, dining spaces and living rooms, where the depth of colour really comes into its own under lamp or candlelight.

Bathrooms can also be beautifully striking with the combination of a light suite, metallics, mirrors and glass alongside rich, dark walls.

Dark wallpaper works in both, but differently.

In a north-facing room, lean on layered lamp light rather than a single overhead fixture to avoid harsh shadow.

In a south-facing room, a dark colourway that looks rich and dramatic in warm sunlight can actually read as richer still - making south-facing rooms one of the best settings for a bolder, darker choice.
